Dr. Ana Andreazza is a Professor in the Departments of Pharmacology & Toxicology and Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She holds a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Molecular Pharmacology of Mood Disorders and the Thomas C. Zachos Chair in Mitochondrial Research. She is also the Founder and Scientific Director of the Mitochondrial Innovation Initiative (Mito2i), a University of Toronto–based strategic research hub dedicated to advancing mitochondrial science and clinical translation.

Her research program focuses on the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in health and disease, with emphasis on three areas: (1) understanding mitochondrial impairments in neurological and psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, using innovative models including patient-derived brain organoids; (2) improving mitochondrial health to enhance the success of organ transplantation, with applications in lung and heart preservation; and (3) pioneering mitochondrial transplantation and novel therapeutic strategies, including the development of biomaterials and mitochondrial donor cells for regenerative medicine.

Dr. Andreazza is internationally recognized as a leader in mitochondrial research and biological psychiatry. She is a Senior Fellow of Massey College, a Member of the Royal Society of Canada College of New Scholars, and serves on international scientific boards, including the Bipolar Scientific Steering Committee for BD² and the Institute for Personalized Therapeutic Nutrition.
