Guido K.W. Frank

Dr. Frank is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California San Diego and a board-
certified adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist. He earned his medical degree from the
Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany. He trained in psychosomatics at the Center
for Behavioral Health Klinik Roseneck, Prien, Germany, and then at the Western Psychiatric
Institute and Clinic, University of Pittsburgh, and the University of California San Diego, USA.

Dr. Frank has been studying the neurobiology of eating disorders for the past 30 years and has
been funded through the National Institute of Mental Health and numerous private foundation
grants for the past twenty years. His overarching goal is to develop translational models that
bridge clinical presentation with neuroscience to develop more effective treatments for eating
disorders.

Dr. Frank’s work introduced computational model-based brain imaging to the field of
eating disorders, used multimodal imaging to develop transdiagnostic models for structural and
effective connectivity across eating disorders that bridged anxious traits with eating disorder
behaviors, and more recently has been investigating ketogenic dietary therapy to treat eating
disorders.
