Michael Tamber

Current: Consultant, specializing in medical review and editing of ACCME- and EACCME-accredited continuing medical education content
Past: Endocrinologist/Chair of Endocrinology at The Everett Clinic (now Optum Medical Group), Clinical Director of Optum WA Laboratories, Medical Reviewer/Editor/Author at Diet Doctor

Before transitioning to his role as a consultant, Dr. Tamber practiced Endocrinology in Everett, WA, where he developed a reputation for both providing evidence-based care and explaining that care in the clearest terms to his patients and their referring clinicians. Additionally, he served as the Clinical Director of a large laboratory system at his multi-specialty medical group, a unique role in which he ensured that the Lab gave the clinicians precisely what they needed and vice versa.

Currently, Dr. Tamber is applying his passion for fidelity to medical evidence to the field of metabolic health. With any nascent, rapidly growing field in Medicine, there may be resistance to change, which can take the form of active aversion to new ideas that contradict dogma, or the resistance may simply resemble longstanding inertia.

Regardless of the reasons for the slow pace of change, Dr. Tamber realizes that getting people to listen depends on being totally honest about where the evidence is strong and where it isn’t. Overstatements, hyperbole, cherry-picking, misrepresentation, and evangelizing all risk the credibility of the movement to improve metabolic health.

This is why Dr. Tamber’s North Star is utilizing his medical review and critical thinking skills to help create high-quality continuing medical education that will do more than preach to the converted – it will engage the even larger audience of skeptical clinicians, scientists, and others, eventually moving the needle toward better metabolic health for all.
